About Dara Theodora

Dara sat on a pink bench by a blue wall with a harsh diagonal shade.

My work explores how physical and unconscious worlds converge, and how that overlap creates both friction and surprise. I use traditional mediums like tempera and oil paint to explore these shifting spaces. In my compositions, I often play with optical representations, like parallax, or visual systems, such as blueprints, to show how different viewpoints can collide or blur together. From our disjointed realities, we still must create a whole.

An uprooted background, along with influences from mythology and literature, shapes these surreal worlds. Navigating them are strange figures and creatures reflecting modern anxieties. Pareidolia often uncovers imagery to further illustrate an idea. Imperfections and abstractions, such as temporal-coded third limbs, are accepted.

Currently based in Vermont, USA. Originally from Central Texas. I’ve shown work across galleries and museums in Vermont, and recently have had work included in a Netflix production.

When I’m not painting or doing your general surviving in the modern world, I’m petting a cat, writing or reading, travelling, attempting to go outside more, or listening to new music.
